CSM lifted to the mountain tops.

Even on my holiday break I'm not taking a break from painting. So the CSM is almost done, few tweaks and I'll start painting the grey onto the Grey Knight if you know what I mean. Besides my muscle sores I feel relaxed and regenerated to maximum so you can expect a lot of activity coming from Brovatar's painting. Stay tuned.

Face of pain

I started to paint up the Grey Knight Grand Master. I began the painting from his victim. Head of this guy is slaanesh but I chose to paint it as a mutated, undivided Chaos Space Marine with no specific god looking at him. So I chose a more natural color for him. The Power Armour will be black with gold accents.

What's it gonna be?

You see all those bits and what do You think I will make from them. I will give you a small hint that there is one box set missing, those are just conversion parts. Start guessing, the winner gets a prize  ;p.

Who's more scary?

Almost ready for painting, just need to finish his hammer, purity seal on his psilancer and I'm good to go. I really like how the CSM turned out. I placed a chaos chain sword on the base to show that he was charging the Grey Knight but failed and dropped his weapon.

Gotcha!

Okey time for some Grand Master goodness, I mean Grey Knight Grand Master. Did some work on the Chaos Space Marine. You have to say that this guy has seen better days. I want to attach a guitar string to represent the right terminator arm power source. The Victim will desperately try to pull it out to free himself from the Grey Knight's death grip. Need to do a lot more things though but the model is beginning to look really nice.

Have a nice day!

Space Marine Outsole

Today a little sculpting tutti frutti. Ok ok a Tutorial. In this article you can learn how to make fast and easy outsole for your space marines. It can come in use when you are making some conversions and your space marines have their legs placed dynamically above the ground, not standing lifelessly on the base.

Step one. Make two green stuff balls. Try to make them the same size. They should be about the size of a space marine fist, not a power fist of course.

Step two. Place the balls under the models' feet. Try to place them in the center of the feet.

Step three. Place some hand cream on the green stuff. It will prevent green stuff from sticking to your sculpting tools and hands.

Step four. Using your finger make a flat surface of green stuff under the feet. Don't worry if the puti leaves the fringe of the sole, we will deal with that later.

Step five. Now it's time for the secret. To make a nice outsole you will need a screw, that's right a screw. You can use different screws for different effects. If you have more gaps on the screw you will have more sections on the outsole. OK now you need to take the screw and place it on the edge of the foot along its side and gently role it all over the green stuff layer. You should have a nice outsole appear right in front of you.

Now all you need to do is let the green stuff harden and after that, remove all the edges that's left around your soles. A simple hobby knife is good for it.

Here is one example of me using it on a model. If you like this sculpting tutorial let me know and I'll make some more.

Development...

Hey guys. To kill some weekend boredom I came up with an idea. I wanted to check how my painting skills have developed in comparison to 4 years ago. I found my old Vlad Von Carstein and I decided that this is the model I want to make the test on. I started by making some photos of the old model. I have to start that 4 years ago this model was painted by me in a mind set that I have to give it all I got and do my best because it was my army general. You know what I'm talking about. Probably you made such a commitment for your characters as well. From this year I started painting models for eBay and on commission. So I had a lot of practice .

As you can see the old model doesn't have any fancy techniques on him, just some layering on most surfaces and a large amount of washes here and there.

Setting sentiments aside I took the model and stripped it from the old paint. Luckily I have the metal version of the model so it wasn't a problem. I was ready to begin the test.

I thought that in order to have a really nice comparable result I have to retain the color scheme of the model. The only difference would be to the gems' color. Red gems didn't contrast well with red armour. Also I decided that it's time to use some NMM on this one. I haven't mastered it yet but it's the latest technique that I'm getting a hang of. So off I went and painted.

     ...and painted some more.

The finished model looks like this. I must say that I am very pleased with the result. I encourage you all to do the same. If you do, I would love to see how you progressed.

Feel free to rate him on Cmon. And eBay link, in case you want to drop me an offer. If you like what I do and want to show support you can follow me on Facebook to receive new updates.
Go and paint!

I smell blood!

...and zombies. The face is 90% done and I'm really happy with it. Sculpting this model gave me an important lesson " Face your fears". See what I did there, face because I was facing my fear of sculpting faces mhuhaha never-mind ;p. I went with a different jaw and nose then I intended. The idea evolved a bit but I couldn't be more proud of myself, it's quite satisfying. Now hands, a linen cloth to cover his manly bits, bat bits? And some skulls, you have to have skulls to carry around, you know.

This bat won't fly!

Some more Greens of the Vampire Beast. The head is a pain I tell you. It's a constant fight to keep both sides as symmetrical as possible  The fact that it's a beast is forgiving any minor mistakes but still it's a lot of hard and time-consuming work. The picture on the right is my first take on the bat head and in my opinion it turned out caricatural and goblin-like. It didn't fit the bulky mass of muscles of murder machine that I want my model to be so I started from scratch once more. Already I like it much better. But still there's a lot that needs to be done on this model, ears, much "cleaning up" smoothing out some areas and filling in the gaps. After I'm done with the whole model there will be another bug challenge on my desk, cutting the model into pieces to fit the molds. In its current pose the model is impossible to cast and that is my main mission in here. It's a sort of a dream to create my own models but you guys help me get through all the challenges and your kind words and constant feedback give me the motivation that I need to press on. Thank you for that.

One of my former commissioners contacted me yesterday so there is a chance that I will be doing another Daemon Prince of Chaos for 40k. This one is going to be even bigger than the Nurgle Daemon so I'm really excited about it.

Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition

Hey guys. I started working on a new Grey Knight commission. It's going to be a Grand master equipped with a MC Thunder Hammer and a Psilencer. The Terminator will be holding a Chaos Space Marine in the air by his neck. It's the final moment before the traitors redemption. Still have to do a lot of stuff on this guy but I already have something to show you. I made a nice cloak from green stuff with the inquisition symbol on it. It will fit nicely to the Grand master. I still need to "master craft" the thunder hammer and finish both arms. I'm really psyched on this commission. It's going to make a really nice center piece for my client's army.

Have a nice one,
Brovatar.

Vampire Hulk ;p

I continue with my Vampiric monster sculpture. As I progress the sculpting, it gives me more and more satisfaction but I'm afraid of the hands and especially the head.I really hope to nail it but on the other hand I've never done it. I did some conversion work on faces here and there but make a full GS head, I never achieved that before. I need to prepare a concept art first for it so that I will have a nice reference point. If you know any good tutorials on those parts, don't hesitate to share them with me, anything can help. How do you like the muscle beast so far?

Daemon Prince of Chaos

Daemon Prince of the Undivided Forces of Chaos is finished. This is an intriguing model indeed. It's built from a wide range of kits. For the torso we have a vintage metal bloodthirster model I believe, not 100% sure on that. The head is from the new DP plastic box set, sword is from Khorn Bloodletters, wings from Vargheist. Left hand is an ogre hand and right is from a Crypt Horror. And of course two heads from a zombie box. Uff that's a lot of different sets but the look is quite original.

You can find him on Cmon and eBay.
